Frequently Asked Questions

Our Cycling Breaks

How do Signpost Cycling breaks work?
Our cycling breaks are generally on a self-guided basis or it may be possible to hire the services of one of our professional tour guides if that suits your particular group better. Whichever type of tour you take Signpost Cycling staff are always on hand if you need any assistance.

Will we stay in one place or stay in multiple locations?
We have two types of tour: “Hub & Spoke” that are rides out from a central location where your accommodation stays the same and “Linear” where you will stay in different accommodation each night and we will arrange for your luggage to be transferred each day for you.

How do we find the routes on a self-guided break?
Extensive research has been carried out to find great routes and you will be provided with a description and maps of your route/s. It is also possible to provide you with GPS Mapping files for use in your own GPS.

How will we know what to look out for on our self-guided tour?
We will provide you with a fact sheet pointing out interesting places and landmarks to look out for on your tour.

What are the tour dates?
There are no set tour dates so just let us know when you would like to go, whether weekend or midweek, and we can check into accommodation availability for you.

Are tours suitable for children?
At the moment we recommend that our tours are suitable for age 16+ (We will be developing some family friendly routes soon)

What should we bring with us?
If you are bringing along your own bike we recommend, helmet, gloves, water bottles, pump, tool kit, spare inner tube, map holder, rucksack and of course sun cream (okay maybe you ought to bring some light waterproofs just in case). We can supply mountain bikes through one of our professional cycle hire partners at a very reasonable cost – pumps, repair kits and helmets are provided with all hire bikes.

What type of terrain will we be cycling on?
In the main you will be riding along a mixture of bridleways and quiet country lanes with the odd spell on a main road where unavoidable – suitable for mountain bikes and hybrids.

Do I have to be really fit to take part in one of your tours?
Whilst you do not have to be super fit to go on one of our tours it may well be that there will be one or two climbs to contend with – however it is not a race so just take a steady pace and feel the sense of achievement wash over you at the top. All tour descriptions indicate the level of difficulty where applicable. Most routes will have a break off option if one of your group would prefer to take advantage of a gentler cut through.

What type of accommodation can I expect?
We use a variety of high quality smaller hotels and guest houses, typically family run with 8 to 12 rooms. We have also partnered with the premier holiday cottage provider in Dorset accessing a vast selection of properties with 2-5 bedrooms. Actual availability will be advised following receipt of your initial enquiry. All our accommodation providers are regularly inspected to ensure the highest standards of hospitality and comfort.

Will my accommodation be cycle friendly?

What time will my accommodation be ready on arrival day?
